Exactly! Some activities and sports are not funded through the school district. So if a kid loves dance, the parent pays for dance outside. If you want you kid in sports, pay for them to be on a team!

What state law, Ignatz?

How bout this program, run the rest of the school sports teams like they do with the hockey teams.

The kids DO pay for that!!! Look THAT up Einstein!!!

The hockey team does that because I believe it is not a sanctioned Section XI sport. There are truly other avenues to cut monies, and if you don't feel it is a State law than look it up on the State Ed website.

You can have pay to play BUT you need to have fundraisers or something to help kids that truly can not afford it but has the skills to make the team. School are for education not sports. Like the other poster wrote, hockey and others are not FREE to parents and if their kid wants to do it, they pay. Long Island can not afford the increases. Sachem is just starting to feel the increases, look at William Floyd, 8% last year, 12.47% this year. When the reserves are gone, programs start to disappear.

Why aren't all parents in the district (even reesidents who don't have kids)pressuring the Board to cut all the "other excess" before they hit the after school activities? Do we need as many secretaries as we have in each building? Do we need all the extra administrators they put in place the past few years? I doubt it.

The District does not need a dime. They have so overtaxed us they swallowed the loss of state aid without a bite.

Do you understand why the District is returning $23 million of over taxation to the Taxpayers?...Ans. Because Law requires them to return unspent fund balance to the taxpayers and they will underspend the Budget by $27 million and can only come up with $4 million of unforeseeable circumstances.

Do you know why the Board was forced to increase fund Balance (Your Tax Dollars sitting in their bank) by $7 million...Ans. To create the need for a $5 million tax increase.

They are Blackmailing parents because they need a passed budget in order to increase it for unforeseeable circumstances. This will be the third year the Board will increase the voter approved budget for unforeseen circumstances. A Contingent Budget does not permit them to increase the budget.

Threats are Blackmail. If they acutely cut things the students can feel. They then go from blackmailers to child abusers who punish kid because their parents had enough over taxation
