The Farmingville Civics Association kicked off its re-launch Jan 19 with Guest Speakers Steve Levy & County Legislator Tom Muratore.

County Executive Levy reported that Suffok County's fiscal health is very good. He said the county has made some tough but fiscally responsible positions which has left suffolk in much better fiscal health than the areas that surround us. He outlined the programs and cuts he has worked on and continues to work on to keep us in good financial health. He spoke about the challenges that lay ahead and outlined the agenda for the coming year.

Legislator Tom Muratore spoke at length about the issues that he has worked on. One key issue is that he successfully put a cap on sales tax for gasoline. Thanks to the work of Tom, there is no sales on gas over the $3.00 a gallon price. You only get taxed on under that amount. Few know about this but it saves residents quite a bit of money and saves jobs by keeping businesss expenses lower. He also told of his concerns that although the suffolk tax rate has not changed, the suffolk legislators have voted to increase fees in almost every area. He calls this a kind of a 'back door' tax increase. It is the reason he voted against adopting the budget.

The meeting was extremely informative and a huge success. We thank these two representatives for coming out and meeting with the residents.

The next meetng is scheduled for the third Wednesday in Feb.
